Design Challenge

Original design concept for this "spec" house was a steep roof line blocking the view of the house above.

Design Solution

It was decided that if the roof was lowered, a view from the upper house would result. Reducing the roof pitch (height) often results in awkward proportions and lesser aesthetic value. Gary Reid flattened the roof pitch but extended the overhangs, resulting in a "prairie" style house. He then developed an elaborate steep-pitched front entry to create architectural impact.
